What Successful Men Get Wrong About Dating

What I have learned from years of working with women, and what good men keep missing about connection.

I have dated men, and I have spent years working with women. So I have the personal lens and the professional one.

As a woman, I know what it is like to try to find a good man. The highs, the lows, all of it. And professionally, I have worked with every kind of woman. The girl next door in middle America. The international supermodel. Billionaire founders. Everything in between. So when I tell you what women want, it is not theory. It is years of sitting across from them and hearing the truth.

The men reading this are men who have gotten most of life right. You built something. You provide. You handle your business. This is the one area that hasn't clicked. That does not make you broken. It makes you normal. Love is the one area success doesn't automatically transfer to.

Here is what I see, over and over, with good men who cannot figure out why this part is so hard.

They misunderstand what "provider" means now. Yes, women want nice things. I won't pretend otherwise. But what they are really looking for is protector energy. The deep, primal feeling of being safe. And in today's world, safety has two currencies. One is material. The other is emotional. She needs to feel safe with you, not just provided for by you. Most successful men overinvest in the first and underinvest in the second, then wonder why she doesn't feel close to them.

They hide what they have instead of sharing it. There is an art to showing a woman your world. A man told me recently he didn't want to take a woman on his private jet because he didn't want to impress her. And I thought, why not? Why wouldn't you put effort into making a good impression? Why wouldn't you want her to see what you are able to provide? That isn't showing off. That is sharing your life. When a man hides everything, it doesn't read as humble. It reads as guarded. Yes, you want to be wanted for the right reasons. That is exactly what a matchmaker is for. We vet. We know who is serious. You get to be generous without being guarded.

They talk instead of attuning. A lot of men spend the date telling her about themselves. Their story, their wins, their world. Some of that is good. She should know who you are. But there is a line where peacocking becomes a monologue, and she stops feeling seen. The men who do best don't perform their success. They notice her. They ask. They remember. Attention is the rarest thing a busy man can give, and it is the thing she will remember most.

They try to win on the apps, where nobody can tell they're a good man. Here is the structural problem. On the apps, she doesn't know who is safe. She doesn't know who is serious. A good man looks exactly like every other profile. That is not a you problem. That is a context problem. Women trust us because of the relationships we have built with them over years. When we introduce you, you don't start at zero. You start with trust.

And the thing no one says out loud: the women you want to meet are looking for a man who makes them feel safe in every sense of the word. Protected. Provided for. Emotionally held. Be that man, and you will not have to compete. There is no competition for the man who makes a woman feel safe.
